Sri Lanka is basically an island in the Indian Ocean, which is located 50 kilometers or 31 miles off the Southern tip of India, and is parted from India by the Palk Strait. The official name of Sri Lanka is the Democratic Republic of Sri Lanka.

The commercial capital of Sri Lanka is Colombo and it is a sovereign, free and independent nation with a population of around 20,926,315 million. Legislative power in Sri Lanka is exercised by a parliament, which is elected by universal franchise on the basis of proportional representation. A president, who is also basically elected by the people, uses executive power inclusive of defense. Sri Lanka enjoys a multi-party system, and the people vote to choose a new government every 6 years.

National flag of Sri Lanka is basically the Lion flag. A lion bearing a sword in his right hand is showed in gold on red background with a yellow border.

The official languages of Sri Lanka are Tamil and Sinhala. However, English is mostly used as means of communication in commercial circles.

The industries in Sri Lanka mainly carry out the processing of rubber, coconuts, tea and other agricultural products. Industries of clothing, petroleum, refining, tobacco, textiles and cement are also well-developed in Sri Lanka.

Agricultural products of Sri Lanka are rice, sugarcane, oilseed, roots, grains, spices, rubber, tea, coconuts, eggs, hides, meat, milk etc.

Sri Lanka mainly adopts five-days a week i.e. from Monday to Friday and the working hours of business are normal.

There are no marked seasons in Sri Lanka. A special feature of Sri Lankan climate is that the humid and hot lowlands and the hygienic hill country are parted by a few hours motoring. There is rainfall all over the year and two main seasons in Sri Lanka are recognized as South-West monsoon i.e. from May to July and North-West Monsoon i.e. from November to January.

Foreign currency in Sri Lanka should be encashed only at authorized money changers or banks. The declarations of currency made at entry to the country might be needed at this stage. Credit cards are also accepted for payments.

Sri Lanka is also the most beautiful country in the world with stunning mountain scenery, amazing waterfalls and tropical rainforests. It is one of the most holiday destinations with many tourists preferring to stay in self catering holiday apartments and holiday villas. They basically make use of this holiday accommodation as a base to travel around the beautiful island of Sri Lanka.
