Holiday Island
Waiting for your vacation? We all wait the whole year round for our vacations so that we can go on tours and discover new destinations. But, most of our time is spent in traveling from one place to the other just to visit the main attractions of the holiday destination.
But, this is just not the case with Sri Lanka which is a small island located in the south east direction of India and is surrounded by the Indian ocean from all its sides.
Sri lanka is a small island spread over 65, 610 sq.km on land. The country is situated 3 degrees from the equator and so, experiences vast variation in its topography which is the main reason behind the country’s unique beauty. The island has many tourist attraction spots for the numerous visitors and tourists from all around the world.
Sri lanka, is a small tear shaped island covered with greenery all over its topography. People are very simple and practice agriculture as their main resources. They cultivate tea, rubber and rice. It has a number of sanctuaries such as the coral sanctuary in Hikkaduwa shores, the bird sanctuary having about 468 different species of birds, the various national parks for different types of wild animals, etc. All these places largely attract the tourists and is fun visiting them. Other tourist attraction places are the various religious Buddhist, Hindu and Muslim temples built hundreds of years ago, the old and abandoned villages of the ancient civilization, the ancient museums etc. One of the most religious temples in Sri Lanka is the Temple of Tooth.
This temple has the most crucial and sacred relics of Lord Buddha. The temple has the sacred tooth of Lord Buddha which was believed from the holy flames of the pyre in which lord Buddha after his death was being light in 543 BC. The tooth was further smuggled into Sri Lanka during the 4th AD in the hair of a princess.
Apart from all these tourist attractions, there are the famous beaches in Sri Lanka which attracts maximum number of tourists from the various countries. The Negombo near Colombo, Mount Lavinia, Bentota, Weligama etc. are few of the most famous beaches in Sri Lanka. Nearly all the beaches have soft, golden colored sand with clear and calm water flowing in and out of the shores. Near these beaches, windsurfing, deep water diving, snorkeling, rafting, hiking etc. are carried on for the fun of the tourists.
The best part about Sri Lanka is that all these places are very close by and so, you can visit all these tourist places in a very short time.
Apart from all the tourist attraction places, the cuisine in Sri Lanka is very simple and different from that of the other countries. People mainly depend upon rice and curry vegetables as their staple food.
