Island Fun
“Ayubowan” is what you will listen when you enter the beautiful country of Sri Lanka. The word “Ayubowan” is a small gesture of the Sinhalese people living in Sri Lanka meaning “Welcome”. Sri Lanka is a small island situated in the southeast of India, surrounded by the Indian Ocean from all its sides.
The island is tear shaped with a variant topography which is the main reason behind its beautiful features. The island is spread over 65, 610 sq.km and has a wide variation all throughout.
According to the historians, the history of Sri Lanka can be traced back to over 2500 years ago which is lost in the various myths and the various legends. The earliest civilization of Sri Lanka has recorded evidence which dates as back as 380 BC when the city of Anuradhapura was made the first capital of the country. Later, the country was invaded by many other communities like the Portuguese, Dutch and finally the British.
There are numerous islands all over the world which attract large number of tourists from all the countries. But, Sri Lanka is somewhat different from all the other islands. It has rich green vegetation of paddy, tea plantations and many rubber plantations all around the island.
The island has many other attractions such as the large number of beaches, the coral sanctuary, the bird sanctuary, national parks, museums and galleries, temples etc.
- Beaches: Sri Lanka is an island and so is covered by the Indian Ocean from all the sides and thus, has many exotic, sandy beaches which also have large coconut trees growing nearby. Some of the famous beaches in Sri Lanka include the Negombo, Beruwela, Mount Lavinia, Hikkaduwa, Bentota, Ambalangoda, Galle etc. The sand in majority of these beaches is soft and golden while the water is clear and calm.
- Coral sanctuary: the country has a famous coral sanctuary at the Hikkaduwa shore which stretches to a couple of hundreds meters offshore to a group of rocks.
- Bird sanctuary: Sri Lanka has a big bird sanctuary consisting of about 468 species of birds. In total, there are about 339 different types of birds that are found in Sri Lanka. During the changing seasons, many migratory birds are also seen flying in from the various northern countries.
- Museum and galleries: the oldest museum in sri lanka is the national museum in Colombo that was established in 1877. The museum has various sections for various types of artistry etc.
- National park: there are many national parks and animal sanctuaries in Sri Lanka. These sanctuaries have vast number of various types of animals such as the sloth bears, porcupines, jackals, amphibians, reptiles etc.
Thus, over all if you really wish to enjoy your vacation in visiting all places rather than just traveling from one place to the other, then Sri Lanka is one of the best places to spend your time and have fun.
